☕ Good morning, STR Report Community!
Welcome back to The STR Report’s Weekend Digest — your go-to scroll for real stories from real investors.
Not sure if you’re ready to get an Airbnb? 🏡 Here’s a story from another real investor and how investing in short-term rentals changed their life for the better.
Real people. Real properties. Real wins. ↓

My wife and I found our way into the short-term rental market just over two years ago. We were debating investments in a second home and split time between the two places. We struggled through the obvious questions, realistically how we split time, what markets were appealing and how much money to spend. So, where did we land? We came to the realization just how much was available to us nearby. We decided to purchase a ½ acre property on Mt. Hood, in the small resort town of Government Camp. Our property has several unique features. It’s located just off the main highway in town offering easy-in and out access, it’s very private with ample parking (hard to find) yet very private. The community and town have a rich history with multi-season sports; we have five ski resorts within 10 minutes of our property. The mountain is covered in hiking and mountain bike trails, which attract groups of all sizes. In the Spring, Summer and Fall. And did I mention skiing? Mt. Hood has year-round skiing and snowboarding camps, the only location in the nation.
So now we’ve entered the short-term rental market. We have a place with year-round activities and beautiful views, and close enough we can enjoy ourselves with our family together. The experience has been so rewarding; this past summer we added a second home adjacent to the property and can now handle parties up to 22.
Would we do it all again? Absolutely, it’s been a blast building, remodeling, and decorating the homes, reading the reviews and seeing how folks enjoy the mountain experience! So much so, we are adding our third property in Eugene, OR near the University of Oregon just after the new year.
